The new Legoland resort in Shanghai officially opened on Saturday, marking the first Legoland park in China and joining a global lineup of 11 parks. Visitors were welcomed by a towering 26-meter (85-foot) Lego figure named Dada, setting the tone for the whimsical and imaginative experience the park offers. The resort was constructed using 85 million Lego bricks, showcasing the brand’s signature creativity and engineering on a massive scale.
One of the major highlights of the Shanghai Legoland is Miniland, a central attraction that features miniature Lego recreations of famous global landmarks. Of particular focus are iconic sites from across China, including Beijing’s Temple of Heaven and the Bund waterfront in Shanghai. Visitors can also enjoy a boat ride through a Lego-built version of a traditional Chinese water town, blending cultural heritage with playful design.

Visitors Call It a Lego Fairyland With Fun, Magic, and Family Entertainment Everywhere
Lego fans expressed their excitement and admiration for the park. Ji Yujia, who attended opening day, described it as a “fairyland of Lego,” reflecting the immersive and imaginative nature of the experience. The resort not only offers visual marvels but also interactive performances featuring popular Legoland characters, adding to the festive and family-friendly atmosphere.
The development of the park was a joint effort between Merlin Entertainments and the LEGO Group, in cooperation with the Shanghai government. Ticket prices range from $44 to $84 (319 to 599 yuan), making it accessible to a wide range of visitors. While the park is not the largest Legoland in the world, it represents a significant milestone for the brand’s expansion into the Chinese market.
