The Nintendo Direct livestream on Thursday delivered an unexpected surprise for Tamagotchi enthusiasts: the early 2000s game series, Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop, is making a comeback with a brand-new installment, Tamagotchi Plaza.
However, the announcement trailer left out one of the most exciting details. According to Tama-Palace, Bandai Namco has revealed on the game’s official website that Tamagotchi Plaza will be compatible with the Tamagotchi Uni.
Players can link their Uni devices to the game to unlock special perks, reminiscent of the beloved but discontinued TamaTown. Tamagotchi Plaza is set to release on June 27.
In Tamagotchi Plaza, players take on the role of shopkeepers, working to prepare the town for a grand Tamagotchi festival. Some shops will also offer a local two-player mode. Regarding the Tamagotchi Uni connectivity, Bandai Namco states:
Tamagotchi Plaza features a linkage function with the Tamagotchi Uni. For the first time, players can connect with the latest toy model, the Tamagotchi Uni. By linking the Tamagotchi Uni, they will gain access to exclusive items, special events, and unique conversations not available in the base game, while supplies last.
With the Tamagotchi Uni approaching its two-year mark, any feature that breathes new life into the device is a welcome addition. For those who may have grown tired of their Uni and set it aside, Tamagotchi Plaza provides a great reason to bring it back into play. That said, owning a Uni isn’t a requirement to enjoy the game; it stands on its own as a cozy and nostalgic experience for longtime fans of the franchise.
