Nintendo has chosen to showcase its new app, Nintendo Today, by delivering a significant news update there first: the official release date for the highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda film.
The live-action adaptation is scheduled to premiere in theaters on March 26, 2027. While the announcement did not include any additional details about the movie, the release date itself provides insight into the production timeline.

The company introduced Nintendo Today as a surprise “One More Thing” reveal at the conclusion of this week’s Direct, stating that it would serve as the primary platform for all major news announcements moving forward. It has now demonstrated this commitment by breaking the Zelda news on the app before sharing it on social media.
The Legend of Zelda film was initially announced in 2023, with Avi Arad and Shigeru Miyamoto attached as producers and Wes Ball directing. The project is being co-financed by Nintendo and Sony. While no casting details have been disclosed, the scheduled release suggests that filming is likely to commence sometime in 2026.
