Google Set To Add Gemini AI Directly To Chrome Browser Across Their Product Lineup

Google is now integrating Gemini AI directly into Chrome

Like many other tech companies, Google is making a significant push into AI development, aiming to integrate artificial intelligence into as many aspects of its product lineup as possible.

The latest effort appears to involve bringing the Gemini AI assistant to Google’s widely used Chrome browser—at least, according to circulating rumors.

This speculation is supported by newly discovered code in the latest version of Chrome Canary, as reported by Windows Latest.

Chrome Canary is a special testing version of the browser where Google experiments with new features, and it looks like Gemini is being incorporated into it. However, it does not appear to be fully functional just yet. (Which isn’t unexpected for Canary.)

The feature in question is called GLIC, short for “Gemini Live in Chrome,” and it introduces a new “Glic” section within Chrome’s settings menu.

Enabling Glic causes a Gemini icon to appear next to the minimize, maximize, and close window buttons. Clicking this icon launches Gemini in a floating modal window.

Additionally, users will have the option to configure Gemini to appear in the system tray, providing a convenient way to access the AI assistant.

The general concept seems to be about bringing Gemini to the forefront while browsing in Chrome, potentially making it a useful tool for answering questions or executing AI-driven tasks without requiring users to navigate away from their browser.
