Discord has introduced its new Discord Social SDK, a free toolkit that allows game developers to integrate Discord’s social features directly into their games. Designed to enhance multiplayer and social interactions, the SDK can be used regardless of whether players have a Discord account. The goal is to create a more connected gaming experience by making it easier for friends to play and communicate together.
Unified Friends Lists and Cross-Platform Communication Streamline Multiplayer Gaming and Player Connectivity
A key feature of the SDK is a unified friends list that lets players access their Discord and in-game friends seamlessly across platforms. Additionally, the SDK supports deep-linked game invites, enabling players to send direct invitations for parties or lobbies, streamlining the process of joining games and improving coordination among players.

The Social SDK also includes robust communication tools, such as cross-platform messaging that works across desktop, mobile, and console. Developers can also link in-game chat systems with specific Discord channels and integrate voice chat, creating a seamless bridge between the game environment and Discord communities.
Discord Empowers Developers With Tools To Grow, Engage, And Retain Gaming Communities
Discord’s co-founder and CTO, Stan Vishnevskiy, emphasized that the platform is a central hub for game communities and can drive discovery and retention. He highlighted that Discord provides valuable tools to help developers connect with their audience at every stage of game development, from pre-launch to post-release.
Several well-known developers are already using the SDK, including Theorycraft Games, 1047 Games, Tencent, and others. The toolkit supports major engines like C++, Unreal, and Unity, and is currently available for Windows 11 and macOS. Discord plans to expand support to consoles and mobile devices soon. With over 200 million monthly active users spending 1.5 billion hours gaming on PC alone, the SDK is positioned to become a powerful asset for developers seeking to grow and engage their communities.
