Gulf Shores Airport Launches First Commercial Flights with Major Terminal Expansion Completed
Starting May 21, Allegiant Air will begin operations at Gulf Shores International Airport at Jack Edwards Field (GUF), marking the launch of its first commercial air service in and out of the region. The inaugural flight from Gulf Shores to Houston is scheduled for the following day, May 22. This milestone introduces a convenient travel option for vacationers and residents alike.

The start of commercial flights comes on the heels of major development at Gulf Shores airport, backed by a $5 million federal grant awarded in February 2024. This funding was used to build a new 17,500-square-foot terminal, which was presented to the public in March. Gulf Shores International Airport Director Jesse Fosnaugh noted that regular communication with Allegiant continues, reflecting the steady progress and strong collaboration driving the project forward.

In Houston, the airline will operate out of William P. Hobby Airport. Allegiant’s Chief Commercial Officer, Drew Wells, emphasized the airline’s commitment to low-cost, convenient travel aimed at leisure passengers seeking value and ease.

For many, it signals the beginning of a more accessible and enjoyable travel experience to and from Alabama’s beaches.
