On Thursday, Anthropic announced major updates to its AI assistant, Claude, expanding its research capabilities and integration options. Claude can now run research tasks for up to 45 minutes before generating comprehensive reports. This new feature significantly enhances its ability to conduct in-depth investigations, compiling information from various sources, including both internal and external resources. Users will also benefit from improved integrations, allowing Claude to connect seamlessly with third-party services, streamlining workflows and boosting productivity.

Enhanced Research Feature Offers In-Depth Analysis, But Users Must Verify AI-Generated Sources

The upgraded “Research” feature builds on the capabilities Anthropic introduced earlier this year. Claude can autonomously browse the web, gather information, and compile research reports in a structured document format. When users activate the research mode, Claude breaks down complex queries into smaller tasks, thoroughly analyzing each aspect before delivering a detailed report with citations to original sources.

The system is capable of running for up to 45 minutes, which is ideal for tasks that typically require hours of manual research. However, users should remain cautious of potential confabulated information, where AI might generate plausible but incorrect sources.

While the AI-powered research feature can be a significant time-saver, particularly for experts who can quickly assess the reliability of the results, there are risks. AI systems, including Claude, can occasionally fabricate sources or quotes that appear convincing but do not exist.

For example, when asked about the history of video game invention, Claude generated an insightful report that combined real information with fabricated quotes. This emphasizes the need for users to verify AI-generated content, especially when using it as the foundation for serious research. While the reports can be helpful, ensuring the accuracy of the sources remains essential.

Claude Integrates with Third-Party Services, Expanding Workflow Automation and Productivity Capabilities

In addition to the research upgrade, Anthropic also introduced an “Integrations” feature, allowing Claude to interact with various third-party services. Similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT plugins, Claude now supports integrations with 10 major services such as Jira, Asana, PayPal, and Square.

These integrations allow Claude to streamline tasks across different platforms, such as automating workflows, pulling data from applications like HubSpot, or generating meeting briefs based on calendar events. This added functionality broadens Claude’s utility, making it a more versatile tool for business operations and personal productivity.

Currently, Anthropic’s new Research and Integrations features are available in beta for users on the Max, Team, and Enterprise plans, with Pro plan access coming soon. Additionally, the web search feature, which was introduced in March, is now available to all paid users globally.

As part of its long-term vision, Anthropic plans to expand its integrations with more services, such as Stripe and GitLab. With these updates, Claude becomes an even more powerful AI assistant capable of tackling complex research tasks and integrating seamlessly into a variety of workflows, improving efficiency for users across industries.
