If there is one thing we know about the audience during COVID19 it is that they have been lured towards the genre of Drama with appreciable finesse by makers belonging to that part of the world of entertainment. The latest Drama series to make headlines is the hit series Shameless.
Shameless: what you should know
Shameless is a comedy-drama series created by Paul Abbott and is developed by John Wells. The show features William H. Macy as Frank Gallagher, Emmy Rossum as Fiona Gallagher, Justin Chatwin as Steve Wilton, Ethan Cutkosky as Carl Gallagher, Emma Kenney as Debbie Gallagher, Jeremy Allen White as Philip “Lip” Gallagher and Cameron Monaghan as Ian Gallagher.
The show follows the family of Frank Gallagher, an irresponsible and drunk father and husband. The family is extremely dysfunctional and it can clearly be seen in the way they interact with each other. As Frank spends most of his day drunk, the children learn to take care of themselves – having been subjected to parental neglect. Although this comes off as a very grave subject, the series is hilarious as the makers have made sure to incorporate elements of humour around the message they are trying to put forward to the public.
The series so far
As of today, 10 seasons of the series can be streamed on Amazon Prime. The show has managed to garner a wide range of audience that religiously stream it, looking at the number of seasons that it has managed to have under its belt. The show was first aired on the 9th of January 2011 and fans have been obsessed with it ever since.
The next step in the show’s journey would be the premiere of the 11th season, which the fans have been looking forward to ever since the last instalment drew to a close. The show was renewed for the next season on January 2020, much to the delight of many a fan. However, the pandemic had stalled the production of the new season even though the first half of it was already written and was all set for filming when COVID19 reared its ugly head. The crew had managed to get done with some of the production and shooting, with the right precautions underway. The finale is yet to be written, which leaves many questions unanswered.
As for the official release date of the 11th season, the new instalment has already dropped its first episode on the 6th of December this year. The makers themselves seem to have no idea regarding the progression of the plot, with only half the show being completed. The one question that fans have been asking since the beginning of time – will Emmy Rossum (who plays Fiona Gallagher) return for the new season of the show, remains unanswered to date. While this kind of uncertainty has definitely left the fans frustrated, it has also managed to kindle their curiosity regarding the show even more. The fans will have to wait another week for the next episode to drop and clear some of their confusion but this is something they are more than willing to do to see their favourite dysfunctional family back on screen!
