There are some shows that come into your life and sweep you off your feet like nobody’s business. There are some, yet that does this with such force that you remember it for a long time to come. Atypical definitely is the latter.
Atypical is a comedy-drama that first premiered in 2017. It is created by Robia Rashid, directed by Seth Gordon, and tells the coming of age story of Sam Gardner, who is on the autism spectrum.
The cast features Keir Gilchrist as Sam Gardner, Jennifer Jason Leigh as Elsa Gardner, Brigette Lundy-Paine as Casey Gardner, and Michael Rapaport as Doug Gardner. The show also has a number of other recurring characters that the audience has come to love as much as the Gardner family.
The plot primarily revolves around Sam as he tries to navigate a neurotypical world as a neuro-divergent person. The story also covers the experiences of other members of the family and deals with a number of great themes like mental health, ableism, sexuality, and parenting.
The show presently has covered three seasons, with the latest season having aired on the 1st of November 2019.
The show has been following very consistent plotlines ever since the first season and the character development involved is something to commend. As of season 3, we saw a lot of pre-existing character arcs take solid shape with Sam finally getting into college, the makers bringing up the discussion of accessibility in educational systems. That being said, one of the most talked-about plot points that the audience is waiting to see more of in the next season is the newfound relationship between Casey and Izzie. In the last season, we not only saw the pair finally admitting their feelings for each other but also a lot of issues that arose once this confession was made. The fourth installment of Atypical will likely shed some light on this pairing that a lot of us are rooting for!
Atypical Season 4: When will the fourth season premiere?
The new season is something the fans cannot seem to wait for, and we are sure the makers are aware of the kind of nervous anticipation they are under. The new season is currently under production, with the pandemic making things a little uncertain. That being said, season 4 will most probably wrap up by the end of 2020. If this happens, as we assume it would, the new season will be out for streaming in mid-2021 – not taking other plans of release into consideration.
A lot is riding on the new season – both in terms of the plot and the series’s future in the long run. We have seen the show’s quality only get better with every new episode, and we sure hope that it maintains its winning streak with the new season. The writers have successfully hooked the audience on to the plot with the ending of season 3, and we can’t wait to see what season 4 has in store for these fictional people we have welcomed into our lives!
