Every time someone asks us about our expectations for 2021, we have only one thing to say: Bond. James Bond. Okay, we’re just goofing around, we have a lot more than that to tell you guys. Let’s begin with the much-awaited – and we don’t use that term lightly – James Bond movie No Time to Die.
Before letting you in on the details of the film, we will first get our basics down. The movie is the 25th instalment of the James Bond franchise and will see the popular spy back at it yet again. The movie was initially set for an April 2020 release, but due to the pandemic, it has now been pushed back by a year – scheduled for release on the 2nd of April 2021. The movie is being directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga with a screenplay by himself, Neal Purvis Robert and Wade Cary and is being produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Eon Productions. The controversy surrounding the direction of No Time to Die has to do with Danny Boyle, who was initially set to direct and write the screenplay along with John Hodge leaving the project, with Hodge himself the following suit. Fukunaga took up the project in September 2018, a month after the previously mentioned events.
The cast of the film sees Daniel Craig returning as James Bond with Rami Malek as Safin, Léa Seydoux as Dr Madeleine Swann and many other stars that the people might find familiar. The budget for the film is a whopping $250 million, which is not surprising considering the popularity of the franchise. Craig has previously been a part of four Bond films and No Time to Die will be his fifth stint – an interesting point to factor in.
The plot of No Time to Die follows five years after the capture of Ernst Stavro Blofeld, the last Bond villain and shows James Bond leading a life away from his past shenanigans as he retires from service. But we all know that he is far from being done and we’re proved right when CIA official Felix Leiter approached him with hopes of getting Bond’s help to find Valdo Obruchev, a scientist that’s suddenly gone missing. Bond soon finds out that Obruchev has been kidnapped by a group of people and he now has to fight the leader whose plans would potentially hurt millions of people.
The movie, interestingly, is all about relationships and family, according to Daniel Craig. This could be a plot point that strays away from the classic 007 tropes but is something to look forward to as the release date of the latest film approaches. The film would be a fresh take on the life of who is probably the world’s most famous spy. The addition of Rami Malek to the cast is also something that the fans have not stopped talking about, seeing that he has garnered a huge fan base across the globe with his film Bohemian Rhapsody in 2018.
The year 2021 has a lot of exciting films waiting for us, but No Time to Die will definitely be the reason for a big deal of excitement when the time for its premiere draws close. We are sure that this Bond film will be as action-packed and exciting as all the others but more so since the audience would witness something as epic as this after a year of uncertainty due to the health crisis.
