The names Rue and Jules became a part of many a person’s vocabularies the moment Euphoria premiered in 2019. The teen drama was lauded for its intensity and the extremely raw manner in which they chose to portray several themes, including drug abuse and sexual assault. Fans have been looking forward to the second season for a while now, and we can finally say that their prayers are close to being answered.
First things first, it is necessary that we have a clear picture of the show and its arc before we get into the details of season 2. Euphoria is a drama series featuring Zendaya, Angus Cloud, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Barbie Ferreira, Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeney, and many other stars. It is written by Sam Levinson and directed by Augustine Frizzell, Sam Levinson, Jennifer Morrison, and Pippa Bianco.
Towards the end of season 1, we witnessed some events that changed our perception of what we thought the plotline would lead to. With Jules leaving, the final episode hinted towards Rue potentially undergoing an overdose once again. We also saw Nate get out of the massive soup he was in, yet the situation with him and Maddie remained open to interpretation. The season concluded on a huge cliffhanger, and the fans felt immense frustration in having to wait for the next season to figure out what exactly happens to their favorite characters.
Euphoria Season 2: What will happen in the second season?
Bad news first: the production of the second season of Euphoria has currently been stalled due to the pandemic. While the second season was initially scheduled for a 2020 release, we now know that fans have to wait till late 2021 or even 2022 for the next installment to premiere.
Now, moving on to the good news: the new special episode of Euphoria has dropped on the 6th of December and is all set to be followed by a second special, very soon. The first part showed Rue grabbing pancakes with her new sponsor Ali, letting us know that it quite isn’t over for her yet. While this episode – titled Trouble Don’t Last Always – tells the story of Rue, her yearning for Jules, and her fight to stay sober, the next one will show us Jules’s side of the story. The new episode is called ‘F*ck Anyone Who’s Not A Sea Blob’ and is all set to premiere on the 24th of January, 2021.
What happens in the new episode is crucial not only for the next season but also for the show. In many ways, the two specials will give us something to grab on to while we wait for season 2 of Euphoria and will also give us an idea of what to expect in terms of the character arcs and plotline. If the makers manage to set the pace for the next installment at this point in the show’s lifetime, it would only make it that much easier for the fans to establish a deeper connection with the characters – one many swear they already feel!
