Ever since fans got a glimpse of Color Out of Space, they have been hungry for more films with Nicolas Cage in them. The most obvious reason is that he is amongst one of those stars with a huge fan following the world over. The other reason is that Nicolas Cage movies promise to entertain, good cinema or not.
To put an end to all of these fans’ woe, 2021 will potentially give us a new Nicolas Cage film and quite a fun one at that! The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is all set for release on the 19th of March 2021, and we are as excited as you are. And, as you can guess from the title, it is an action-comedy film to top every other action-comedy film – or so we think.

Alongside Nicolas Cage, the movie stars the hilarious Tiffany Hadish, Pedro Pascal playing the role of Javi, Sharon Horgan, Alessandra Mastronardi, and many other famous names. The movie is directed by Tom Gormican and is produced by Nicolas Cage, Kevin Etten, Kevin Turen while the screenplay had been taken up by Gormican and Kevin Etten (both of whom had previously worked together on the show Ghosted). The film is one of the lucky ones that have managed to keep up the original schedule drafted for it, with the pandemic not affecting it to a noticeable extent.

The plot of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent follows Nicolas Cage (played by well, Nicolas Cage, of course), who agrees to attend a wealthy fan’s birthday party after being offered a payment of one million dollars. Things quickly go downhill after he finds out that the fan is a drug lord. He is now forced to play out some of his famous movie parts in order to save himself and his family from being trapped in the situation. The plotline is an exciting take on a popular trope, and it would be great to watch Cage re-live some of his characters in a manner none of us would have thought possible.

We could arguably say that comedy is one of the most forgiving genres out there simply because the audience is, in most cases, there for one reason and one reason only – to have a good laugh. Now, although it might take some time and effort to gauge what works and what doesn’t properly, it does not go south very often. What might distinguish a great work of comedy from a mediocre one is the attention to details that the makers decide to engage in knowing this little fact. With The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, we see the potential for a great piece of entertainment.
The cast, the crew, and the writers involved in the movie are distinguished in whatever they do. The film would be a success if everyone’s style could blend in with each other and create something that is funny yet has a lot of substance to it – a quality that is always welcome with work in this genre. With 2020 almost coming to a close and people figuring out more ways to work around the pandemic, we can see many stalled projects picking up. This might cast a shadow over films that have been lined up to premiere around the same time. How this will after The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, we do not know, but we sure hope that it gets the shot it deserves!
